I can’t seem to stop being amazed at how well some types of body piercing looks on certain types of people!
Just look at this photo of a young girl with crazy violet hair – she has a rather long piece of labret body jewelry inserted right under her bottom lip but it looks just AMAZING!
This particular labret jewelry is a metallic spike, but as you can imagine, this is just one tiny little bit of the larger range of labret studs that are available in online body jewelry shops.
Ours is no different – you can check out our range of labret jewelry HERE and see if you spot anything to your liking! 😉
But if you look very intently, you’ll notice that the girl in the photo also has a nose piercing – it’s just that the nose stud is so small it’s pretty hard to spot it!
And here’s the good news, by the way – regardless of what kind of body piercing you have – be it labret, nose or navel – you can submit your body piercing story HERE and get free body jewelry posted to you!
No kidding, it’s totally true, just check out this tongue piercing story sent in by Svetlana from Nevada, for example! 😀
You may think that you cannot really experiment with labret piercings, but in fact you can find some really unique labret body jewelry. If you shop around you should be able to find quite a few different designs!
Whether you are looking for something simple or labret body jewelry that will really draw people’s attention; you can find it if you take the time to look.
What Labret Body Jewelry should you choose?
There are a few factors which will determine which type of labret body jewelry you choose. Your age, sex, budget and personal tastes will all contribute to the jewelry that you end up with.
For women the most popular types of labret body jewelry tends to be colourful and glittery designs. If you really want to stand out then why not look out for multicoloured labret body jewelry? This will really give a unique appearance and whilst it appeals to many women, it is a unisex design so males can comfortably wear them too.
Men typically prefer the plainer designs or designs which have very simple patterns. If you are a male looking for the right labret body jewelry to suit you then the best colour to look out for is black or blue. These colours will compliment your piercing and give you a more masculine appearance.
Hedgehog labrets are also fantastic for men. They have a more punk/gothic feel to them and they truly are unique. They have a spiky design and you can choose from a range of different colours.
The only thing to take into account when shopping for labret body jewelry is the material. To avoid infection and a possible negative reaction, it would be a good idea to purchase bioplast or titanium jewelry. These are high quality materials that do not usually cause any reaction. They are particularly better suited to first time piercings.
You can also find some labret body jewelry that simply pushes in. These take out the hassle of placing the jewelry into the piercing and they do not stick out as much as some other styles do.
Here you’ll find a wide selection of labret body jewelry if you shop around. No matter what your budget there will always be at least one design to suit your needs. Just remember to stick to titanium, surgical steel or bioplast jewelry if it is your first labret piercing!
The labret piercing is basically a piercing located through the lower lip. It can be done in any position under the lip, though where it is positioned is extremely important!
If the piercer gets it wrong then the bar will sink into the lip and in some cases the jewellery can actually rub the gum which will in turn cause it to recede.
Another thing that the piercer has to avoid is the inferior labial artery.
This is responsible for supplying blood to all of the muscles around the mouth and puncturing it would obviously be extremely hazardous.
Things You Should Know
The labret piercing is usually done by the position first being marked and then a Foerster clamp is used to pull the lip away from the jaw. Once ready the piercer will pierce the lip with a needle and the jewellery that you have chosen will be placed in straight afterwards. Once this is done the needle will be removed and the clamps will be released.
Most piercers tend to pierce the lip from the outside. However, it has been revealed that if the piercing were to be done from the inside to the outside then it would be quite painless! So you could always ask the piercer about this when you have your consultation.
It can take up to three months for a labret piercing to heal. If you want to help it along a little then you can always use a saline solution. If you are having trouble finding a suitable saline solution then choose one which is designed to clean contact lenses. Many people make the mistake of moving the jewellery in their piercing backwards and forwards. As tempting as this may be you could actually be causing damage and that will cause the healing process to be lengthened.
Labret piercings are usually done with a 16g needle. This ensures that the piercing does not look abnormal; especially on women. Most people find that a labret stud is the best type of jewellery to wear in a labret piercing. However you do have a number of options to choose from. Overall labret piercings can look really good just as long as you take care of them properly!
